Believe it or not there is one thing, if it happened, it would bring this country and for that matter, the whole world to a grinding halt in just 24 hour.
If it did happen, it would be worse than the great depression of the 1930’s and it would make the Global Financial Crisis (GFC) look like a “picnic in the park”.
Business as we know it and the life you have come to enjoy would disappear overnight.
It would spell the end of civilisation as we know it.
It would make the stock market crash look like a blip on the horizon.
Words like “Armageddon” and “Apocalypse” come to mind.
It would be worse than our armed forces going on strike or being obliterated.
We could survive a week, a month or even a year without politicians, doctors, lawyers and university professors, but we couldn’t survive a day if what I am about to reveal happened…
I could just reveal what this CATASTROPHIC EVENT is right from the “get go” but I firmly believe that if I tell you a recent true story you will get a much clearer understanding of what it is I’m trying to get across to you.
You see, recently, on my birthday in fact, I went to one of those Home Show Expo’s where sales people and business owners alike man those sales booths hoping to sell their wares.
I’m sure you have been to one in the past and you know what I am talking about.
My reason for going to this Home Show Expo was pure and simple, I wanted to find out for myself if there was any selling going on and if salesmanship was dead.
Well if it was salesmanship I wanted to witness, I should have gone to a strip club because at least then I would have seen some selling going on…
Now setting up shop at one of these expos isn’t cheap either, I’ve done it in the past and you don’t get much change out of $6k – $10k.
From this entire expo, only 3 organisations tried to sell me something and actively solicited my details like my name, address and telephone number.
As I am writing this, only 1 has followed up.
What this tells you is that the other expo stands were manned by professional “stander arounders” or at best, order takers and brochure distributers.
The ones who thought they were really smart stapled a card to the brochure.
So in a sense…
SALESMANSHIP IS DEAD!
It’s not the first time I have done something like this, in fact, whenever I want to buy something I can’t help but “critique” the sales process and the sales people.
The reality is, without a very rare exception, I am BITTERLY DISAPPOINTED.

Believe me, the economic chickens are coming home to roost, the government can’t “sugar coat” the truth about our economy any longer.
The good times when businesses big and small could get away with being sloppy around sales are gone for good!
The truth is, there WAS NEVER any selling going on and a whole lot of so called sales people had this ill-conceived idea that they could sell.
They weren’t selling, it was just that money was being thrown around like there was no tomorrow.
You may remember like I do, that banks were throwing credit cards around to anyone who would take them, with massive limits on them.
I can recall it being reported on TV that babies and dogs had credit cards arrive in the mail and of course what did “you do” with those credit cards when you got them was…
You went out that night and “broke them in”.
Housing prices were increasing massively year after year… Some people even re mortgaged their houses 3 times a year and went out and used them as a giant credit card, spending it on depreciating assets.
The reality is you didn’t have to be good at selling to be making a lot of sales when things were this damn good.
Now of course, that has all changed… there is no such thing as “undeserved success” anymore. I promise you…
THE CHAOTIC FINANCIAL YEARS AHEAD BEAR NO RESEMBLANCE TO THE WORLD YOU AND I GREW UP IN.
And those who cling to outdated myths like “she’ll be right mate”, job security, quickly rebounding economy and the government as the great protector of the people are destined to live out their lives in misery.
OPPORTUNITY IS KNOCKING ON YOUR DOOR.
Don’t get me wrong here, this is not a “prophet of doom” blog, it’s actually an “OPPORTUNITY OF A LIFETIME” blog.
Why would I say that? Well history has shown that certain people make more money during and after a recession or depression than any other time.
Of course, I would argue that it should never be about a good economy or a bad economy… it should be about being the best marketer in your category regardless of the economy.

Imagine if no one sold anything for a whole day.
The world as we know it would grind to a halt in hours, it probably wouldn’t take a day or a week.
I’m not trying to be dramatic, but I am trying to make this incredibly important point and that is that nothing happens and I mean NOTHING until a sale is made.
And yet selling is almost dead.
I struggle to find anyone who has a clue.
